Meet Our Team
Tafoya L. Sutton, Sr. is the esteemed Founder and CEO of Veterans Housing Solutions (VHS). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Phoenix, where he successfully completed his studies. From a young age, Tafoya demonstrated his compassion by visiting nursing homes, shelters, and actively engaging with those in need. He dedicated his time to ministering to both the staff and patients, providing much-needed support. In 1978, he joined the United States Army as a Chaplain Assistant, where he offered invaluable administrative assistance to active-duty soldiers and veterans who had fulfilled their service. His responsibilities encompassed a wide range of services, including support for marriages, funerals, baptisms, and even assisting in autopsies of fallen soldiers. Tafoya also played a crucial role in funeral proceedings, providing musical and logistical support, as well as assisting with burial arrangements. Having personally experienced homelessness, Tafoya possesses a deep understanding of the challenges faced by displaced veterans. Driven by his desire to serve and assist others, he is determined to eradicate homelessness among veterans. During his time as a homeless veteran, he resided in shelters for two years, further fueling his commitment to addressing this issue. The vision of Veterans Housing Solutions, under Tafoya's leadership, is to offer comprehensive supportive services in areas such as housing, case management, job training, and referral services to all veterans. By doing so, they aim to empower veterans, enabling them to achieve financial stability and ultimately secure permanent housing. On 31 March 2021, Tafoya retired after an illustrious 29-year career in Federal Service, which included serving in the U.S. Army, U.S. Postal Service, and OPM/Federal Government Service. He takes immense pride in being a 100% Service-Connected Disabled Veteran. In recognition of his exceptional dedication to volunteerism, Tafoya was honored with The President's Volunteer Service Award/Seal/Medal by President Barack H. Obama in 2015.
